4A-Forming an Opportunity Belief

1) I have a belief that there is an opportunity for a product to retrieve phones from cracks between couch cushions and car seats.

2) The unmet need is the lack of a product to retrieve a phone from the space between the car seat and the center console. Anyone who has a cell phone has the need. The need came from the invention of cell phones and the existence of a small gap between the car seat and center console. Right now people are meeting this need by jamming their hand in the gap and struggling to pull out their phones. I am 100% sure this opportunity exists

3) The prototypical customer is anyone with a cell phone and a couch or car.

4) Interviewee 1: Carla Nicolella
    Interviewee 2: Ralph Collazo
    Interviewee 3: Dylan Egleston

5) After the three interviews, I confirmed that there was a need for this sort of product. Whether it be a special phone case or an actual hook attached to a rod there is definitely a need for a product to retrieve phones from confined spaces. Just about everyone has this problem and the current solution to it is always a hassle and unpleasant. If I could come up with an easy hassle-free solution to the problem I think I could capitalize on this opportunity.

7) How much of your original opportunity is still there?
Much of my original opportunity is still there as the only thing that changed is my ideas on how I might solve the issue
Do you believe that your new opportunity is more accurate than when you first started?
I do as it allowed me to narrow down the form factor that customers would like this product in.
How much do you think entrepreneurs should 'adapt' their opportunities based on customer feedback? (In other words, is there a trade-off between adapting and staying firm?)
I think entrepreneurs should adapt their opportunities based on customer feedback as being in line with the customer's needs is one of the keys to success in my opinion.

  1. Hi Christian,

This is an interesting opportunity you've discovered. I can definitely say I relate. I can't count the number of times I've had to show my hand in that crevice to find my phone. I guess something you'd have to consider is how many people are willing to pay for a product that retrieves phones considering technically there is a solution. Perhaps another solution could be to create a products that wedges itself in the crevice so your phone doesn't fall in there.

I also would have loved to hear more about the individual interviewee responses.

    Thank you!

  2. Hello Christian! I feel that this opportunity is one that many can relate to. I have found myself struggling many times trying to retrieve my phone and sometimes hurting myself in the process. I would have to second what Holly commented before that you should look into how many people would consider purchasing the item. Even though it can be a hassle to deal with are people really going to spend money on a product that is going to be used often?
