6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
1st Opportunity:
I believe there is an opportunity for a social program to increase youth voting. The increased emphasis as of late on the proportionally small percentage in which youth voters come out to vote has put pressure on this demographic to have their voice heard.
I learned of the need for increased youth voting through reading The Washington Post.
I believe there is a political opportunity for increased emphasis on youth voting as youth supported policies are underrepresented.
I think any young person that is currently unwilling to vote would be the prototypical person.
I think this would be a moderately difficult opportunity to capitalize on.
I formed the belief as I am passionate about politics.
2nd Opportunity:
I believe there is an opportunity to develop an alternative to fossil fuels.
I learned of this by reading the news and learning about recent findings on climate change.
I believe this is an opportunity as climate change means that fossil fuels will not be an option in the future.
I think the environmentally-conscious consumer would be the prototypical customer.
I think this would be a difficult opportunity to capitalize on.
I formed this belief as I am aware of the negative effects of fossil fuels.
3rd Opportunity:
I believe there is an opportunity for an intentionally unbiased news source.
I learned of the need through the insanely biased news sources that are currently available.
I believe this is an opportunity as people are increasingly looking for the true facts of the news.
I think that the average customer would be someone who desires to be informed so it would be directed towards an academic crowd.
I think this opportunity would be difficult to capitalize on.
I formed this belief as I am sick of increasingly untrue and biased news stories.
4th Opportunity:
I believe there is an opportunity for climate change-resistant housing. Such as flood-resistant houses or using construction materials that are resistant to temperature change.
I learned of this need through reading about the effects of climate change on poorly equipped houses.
I believe this will become an opportunity as people realize the real-world impact of climate change.
I think the prototypical customer will be a young thirty-something who is beginning to look at the housing market.
I think this opportunity would be moderate to capitalize on.
I formed this belief as flooding beginning to be an issue in Florida.

Wow, really thinking big on this one, Christian! That's cool, but I would caution against painting in broad strokes, especially in bloated markets. Reading your proposal for an unbiased news source, I can't help but think that you would have an incredibly difficult time entering such a noisy area with any chance of profit, and that you can not help but add in bias (if not you personally, then someone on your team, you know?). I like your number 4 the best, since this is a clear trend that is becoming more crucial each passing year, and I believe you could probably act on it now in some way, more so than the other ideas, while still being profitable.
